I find the ants intriguing as a group because of their incredible diversity in morphology, behavior, and ecological roles.  As a first year graduate student in the Ward lab my research interests include the taxonomy, molecular phylogeny, and biogeography of ants.  Specifically, I am interested in working on a species level revision of the genus Temnothorax, with special attention paid to the neotropics.  Additionally, I am fascinated by the phenomenon of social parasitism and its evolution within the family Formicidae.
