A Bibliography of Ant Systematics
Ward, P. S., Bolton, B. B., Shattuck, S. O., Brown, W. L., Jr. 1996. A bibliography of ant systematics. University of California Publications in Entomology 116:1-417.
This is a comprehensive compilation of the literature on ant systematics. Covering the period 1758 to 1995, it includes not only strictly taxonomic papers but also those dealing with such related fields as ant morphology, phylogeny, biogeography, faunistics, and comparative biology. Each of the 8185 entries in the bibliography has been carefully scrutinized for accuracy of citation, and its date of publication has been determined as precisely as possible. The published bibliography also contains a list of all serials cited, with full titles and abbreviations, and a detailed discussion of the procedures used for dating taxonomic publications (this last will be of interest to bibliographic pedants).
The University of California Press, 2120 Berkeley Way, Berkeley, CA 94720 U.S.A. Phone: 800-822-6657 (USA); 800-777-4726 (Canada). Price $US 44.00.
And from Amazon.com, Inc. where the book receives the following (rave? sarcastic?) review from an anonymous reader:
“Wow, the best book I ever read!! Everyone must read this!!”
(Do I have someone to thank for this?)
Online version of ANTBIB
The bibliography of ant systematics is based on a reference database, ANTBIB, which used to be available in Excel format. ANTBIB has now been moved to an online site, AntCat, where it is updated on a regular basis. See: http://antcat.org/references.
